Levels redevelopment – some news and views:
The council’s Parks Project have been leading a project to work out how they could attract money from the Heritage Lottery Fund, (HLF), to redevelop the Level.(see B&H councils details http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/thelevel
Whilst wishing to work with the council to support the application for funding from the HLF the Friends of the Level have concerns about some aspects of their plans. (For a detailed explanation of our concerns and a detailed response from the councils Parks Project team click here.)
The FoL planned a campaign of posters and petitions to raise the issue of the loss of green space and the development of the northern green.
Just after an e-petition was launched and as we were launching the poster and paper petition aspects of our Keep the Green Green campaign the councils announced their decision to delay application for funding to allow for more time for consultation before deciding on a master plan.
FoL welcome the councils decision and will do our part to see that as many people as possible have access to as many of the facts and opinions as possible.
We hope that this means that there will be more time for the concerns of FoL and others to be debated and for a realistic compromise to be reached.
We have been inundated with responses from allsorts of different people – and this has not been easy time as we try to represent different opinions.
Of the people who have been attending FoL meeting the majority have been against any plans to build on the northern green area. The keep the Green Green petition is being managed by some local residents concerned to keep the issue live and to be able to demonstrate the strength of feeling about this to the council. The petition is also posted as an e-petition on the councils web site at: http://present.brighton-hove.gov.uk/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?ID=176
People in favour of enlarging and moving the skate park from where it currently exists to the northern green have started a counter petition.
